Who this is

Econvitals publishes free economic briefings and data-release alerts arranged by Jason Furman, Aetna Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy jointly at the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard's Department of Economics. Post reaches us at Econvitals, Jason Furman, Harvard University, 79 John F Kennedy St, Box 84, Cambridge MA 02138, and email at feedback@econvitals.org.

How it is written

Almost everything published here is written by Claude, an AI assistant — to Jason's design and with his ongoing corrections, but not reviewed before it goes out. The exceptions are the Occasional Posts from Jason Furman, which he writes himself, and anywhere a piece says otherwise. Posts may contain mistakes and also may not reflect the opinions or analysis of Jason or any other person. Corrections are genuinely welcome.

Not advice

Nothing here is investment, financial, tax or legal advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. It is provided for information only, without warranty of accuracy or completeness, and views expressed are not those of Harvard University or of any other organization Jason is associated with—and are not necessarily Jason's views either.

What we hold, and what we do with it

If you subscribe we hold your email address, the name you gave us, which products you asked for, and the dates on which you subscribed, confirmed, or changed any of that. Nothing else.

We do not track whether you open an email or which links you click. There are no tracking pixels in the briefings and no advertising anywhere. We never share, sell or rent your address, and we do not use it to build a profile of you or hand it to anyone who would.

The website itself counts visits with Plausible Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores no personal data, so no consent banner is shown. It counts which pages are read, which briefing PDFs are downloaded and which links out to data sources are followed, in totals, never tied to a person.

Nobody is added without confirming: signing up sends a link to the address given, and no subscription exists until that link is clicked. This is also what stops someone signing you up without your knowledge.

Leaving, and deletion

Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe and a link to change what you receive; neither needs a password, and both take effect immediately. You can drop one product or all of them.

Unsubscribing marks your record inactive and stops all mail. If you would rather be erased altogether, write to feedback@econvitals.org and say so — we will delete the record and confirm. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you.

If a message to you bounces repeatedly, or you mark one as spam, we remove you automatically. We would rather lose a reader than keep mailing someone who does not want it.

Who else touches the data

Two suppliers necessarily see your address: our website host, which stores the subscriber list, and our mail provider, which delivers the messages. Neither uses it for anything else. We keep a log of subscription changes for two years, and then trim it.

Copyright

Everything we publish here is placed in the public domain under Creative Commons CC0 1.0: the text, the charts and the data are free for anyone to use in any way, for any purpose, without permission and without payment. Quote it, republish it, translate it, adapt it, build a product on it. We hope you cite us.

Changes

If any of this changes materially, we will say so in a briefing rather than quietly editing the page.
